“The Results” (Season-01;Episode-8;aired-11/30/16)
Another Explosion
So there’s another explosion. No, not the capitol, that’s been done. Not some journalist threatening to blow up Leo’s life. Nope, not even Jack Bauer showing up. It’s an information leak. Nassar’s death was kept on the down-low, but Kimble Hookstraten is finding out at the same time as the press.
Why didn’t he tell her? Uh, maybe because he doesn’t trust her. I don’t fully trust her yet. The prez makes a “sorry not sorry” apology. But, there are bigger things to tackle. A toxin has been released in Kansas City, perhaps bioterrorism. Could this be retaliation to Nassar’s murder? The investigation shows it was released in relation to the upcoming election and the target is voters. Great! What now? Do they shut down the polls? Too risky, but maybe they don’t have a choice. Kirkman reluctantly decides to close all polling stations, but lucky for democracy the President sees a speech by the daughter of a victim who died from the toxin. Her massage is that her mother did it so everyone could have a voice.
Kirkman is moved. So instead of cancelling the election, he goes to vote. The polls are emtpy! On the bright side, I’d like to think “hey, no lines”. Turns out America was watching and by seeing their accidental president vote, even in spite of the surrounding fears, America decides to vote.
My Two Dads
Mike Ritter, on detail, escorts Leo to school. A would-be friendly reporter approaches and drops a bomb on him: “hey kid, did you know the prez might not be your dad? Gotta run!”
Understandably, Leo skips school and straight up asks his “dad”. Alex, the real mom (unless there’s another twist coming that we never knew), tries to reason with him. Well, this 17-year old isn’t into reason. He’s pissed. He feels betrayed.
POTUS asks Seth to investigate the leak. Seth knows exactly who to visit: Lisa. Lisa claims she had no knowledge, so he goes to the reporter, who confirms it was Lisa who gave him the scoop.
With paternity papers in hand, Alex enters the Oval Office, saying Leo wants to talk to him. Leo and POTUS have a heart-to-heart. POTUS points to the results, still sealed, and says he can look at them but no matter what they say, he considers himself his dad and nothing will change that. He leaves Leo to do as he will with the results. Leo goes to ponder and sulk when Agentman Mike has a heart-to-heart. Turns out Mike was adopted and always felt his adopted dad was his REAL dad. Sometimes it takes a kind stranger to help us see things right, and Mike’s speech did the trick. Leo returns to POTUS, envelope still sealed and says the results don’t matter. What does is their bond. Aw, tear!
POTUS opens the results and takes them to Lisa for her face-to-face that Seth promised. He shows her. Now, she needs to make it known and make it right.
FBI craziness
Hannah shows up to work and asks Atwood about his son. He lies and says he was at a friend’s house. False alarm. Silly kids! He then gets a call by the mysterious woman who originally informed him of the kidnapping. He tells him to get in his car and drive somewhere. He does it but only after proof of life by hearing his son’s voice.
Atwood leaves to some warehouses. Unbeknownst to him, Hannah is following. And unbeknownst to her, she’s being followed by Catalan. Worried for her boss, Maggie calls into FBI and finds out Atwood is headed to the White House. She tries to prevent him, but only gets stopped by security for not being on the “cool kids list”. So she phones him and gets a voicemail.
Atwood sits down with the President and admits that “for love of country” he killed Nassar and advised POTUS to press the button. Immediately tons of agents burst in and arrest him. The prez isn’t fully buying it so he asks Aaron and Emily to dig a little deeper.
Aaron calls in Maggie (which now means she’s on the “cool kids list”) to meet about her boss. Before the meeting, POTUS meets with MacLeish and Hookstraten. Hookstraten offers to put together an investigative committee, but MacLeish poo-poohs it as just the death of a terrorist, nothing more. POTUS agrees.
As Maggie walks in to meet with Aaron, a secret text shows up to “Say Nothing” and so she offers up nothing on Atwood. When leaving, she calls the CIA to have the call traced. She calls back and a woman answers, declines to meets, and says to look into “11:14 pm”.
MacLeish vs. Kimble
In a brief visit, Kimble calls out MacLeish on his plans to help the president fail. She lets him know, she’ll take them both down at once. MacLeish leaves to meet with mystery kidnapper woman (not Maggie’s mystery women) to ask “how many more need to pay before this is over?” Her reply: One.
Questions:
- Why so many mystery women? Are they the same woman playing both sides against each other?
- Is MacLeish really really bad, or being played? Does he “want this to be over” because they have dirt on him? Or is he a willing mastermind.
- Whose side is Kimble on? Well, she’s on her own side. She’s playing for herself. She’ll take down “both of them” because it will benefit her. She’ll be for or against anyone who can advance her. While I don’t she’s in on this evil mastermind destroy the government plan, I do think she’s a bad person.
- Will Atwood be avenged?
